Founded in 1897

Back in 1897, Essendon won the very first VFL premiership, Fremantle harbour accepted its first ship, and the Colac Bowling Club was founded.

After many years, two relocations, an extension or four, and most recently the major internal refurbishment, Colac Bowling Club still strives to provide the best experience for members and guests.

While many things may have changed since back then, what hasn’t changed are the stunning panoramic views of Lake Colac and the fantastic social atmosphere you get from the Colac Bowling Club.

The Location

You’ll find the Colac Bowling Club in a beautiful location on the Lake Colac south west shore.

The views from the club out across the lake are legendary, and are a must see if you’re travelling through Colac. Not only do you get the stunning views from the large function rooms, but also if you’re having a roll on the bowling greens!

Expansion

From humble beginnings in Market Square, Colac Bowling Club now features three high quality greens including two “Tiger Turf” carpet greens that host some hotly contested tournaments, large function and member areas for a beautiful wedding, successful corporate event or awesome party, and a very recently upgraded audio visual system, which will ensure every event is memorable.

Meetings And Functions

If you need meeting room hire in Colac or are searching for corporate function venues, Colac Bowling Club functions are a great way to impress guests while taking away the stress of organising equipment, catering, drinks and seating.

Included with your booking is a PA system, wireless microphones, an overhead data projector and 100 inch television screen, making Colac Bowling Club the ideal location for ease of set up.

Social Membership

Colac Bowling Club is also the best location for a barefoot bowls club, as you can enjoy the sun, the lake and the bar while you bowl the afternoon away with your mates.

History

Founded in 1897

Founded in 1897, Colac Bowling Club is the oldest bowling club in Colac. The club facilities were originally established in what was then known as Market Square.

In 1921 the club re-located to a new site in Manifold Street and remained there until 1964 when another move was made to the clubs current location, then known as Western Bay.

Since 1964 a number of improvements have been made to this site, which include the extension of the original building in 1969, to incorporate a new club lounge and bar.

Associates

In 1979, associates were admitted to the Club. Bingo was introduced in 1980 and continues to run every Friday night. In 1988, a 3rd green was constructed on the North West corner of the site.

Major extensions were made to the kitchen and dining room in 1992 and in 2004, the members lounge was extensively extended to the West enabling viewing in comfort of play on all 3 greens from the within the club house. In 2007 the ladies locker room was enlarged by extending it towards the front of the club house.

Tiger Turf

In 2011 the first of the “Tiger Turf” carpet greens was installed on Green 3 with a second “Tiger Turf” carpet on Green 2 being installed in mid-2013.

The most recent development at the club was in 2017 with a major internal refurbishment including new bars and offices and upgraded function spaces.
